About the GIRF Women's Board

The objective of the Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation's Women's Board is to help those who suffer from digestive disorders. Each year a series of activities and events are planned to raise the funds needed to support research and educational programs of the Gastroenterology Section of the Joseph B. Kirsner Center for the Study of Digestive Diseases at the University of Chicago.

The role of the Women's Board has been critical in helping to attract outstanding young physicians and scientists and to fund promising new research projects in their formative stages. Over the years, a close, mutually beneficial partnership has developed between the members and the Center's faculty. This faculty considers the GIRF Women's Board an indispensable link that ties the medical team closely to the broader community .

The Women's Board's major fund-raising efforts -- the Fall Fashion Show and the Holiday Greeting Card Project -- provide essential support for the Library -- books, journals, monographs and space -- research into the special problems that afflict children and young adults, state-of-the-art equipment for laboratories and urgently needed salary support.

Membership in the Women's Board is obtained through an annual payment of dues. Meetings are held on a notification basis. For more information call the GIRF office at: 312.332.1370 or email us at: girf@earthlink.net
